Onja is located in Toamasina, a lively city with beautiful beaches, nice restaurants, and with plenty to do and see. Toamasina is Madagascar’s second largest city (population 300,000) yet is surrounded by plenty of natural beauty, and even has a national park nearby.
About the RoleThe Accountant will ensure accurate and timely financial record-keeping by preparing and entering transactions, maintaining ledgers, reconciling accounts and supporting the Finance team with essential bookkeeping and reporting tasks.
We believe in hiring based on potential, attitude and cultural fit rather than specific qualifications.Your responsibilities will include:- Prepare journal entries, update ledgers and ensure all supporting documents are properly filed.
- Reconcile bank accounts, mobile money accounts and cash balances regularly.
- Process payroll and ensure related statutory payments are calculated and submitted on time.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable including verifying invoices, receipts, and payment requests.
- Support monthly and annual closing processes by preparing schedules and reconciliation reports.
- Assist in preparing financial reports and statements for internal use and audits.
- Monitor compliance with financial policies and flag inconsistencies or missing documents.
- Collaborate with the Finance Officer to ensure accurate budgeting, expense tracking, and cashflow management.
Requirements- Strong logical thinking and love for numbers
- Good attention to detail and a high level of integrity
- Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable with spreadsheets and basic digital tools
- Based in or willing to relocate to Toamasina
- Good team player
- Proficient in English
